Video 1: Introduction to Early Access Program
• Welcome to the Pocket Radar Early Access Program!
• Within this program, our intention is to have individual stakeholders who are familiar
with our company and technology access, test, and provide feedback on pre-market
products that we are in the process of developing.
• We truly appreciate your willingness to evaluate our emerging technology, such as
Pocket Radar PRO, prior to its eventual public release.
• It is likely that the Early Access Program has already been enabled for you within your
Pocket Radar Sports App by default; however, if not, you can check to see if you have
access by clicking “More,” then “Early Access Program” and ensuring “Pocket Radar
PRO” is turned on.
• If you do not see “Pocket Radar PRO” enabled within the Pocket Radar Sports App,
please contact support and we’ll get you situated.
• To get started with Pocket Radar PRO, you’ll need to do the following:
o Step 1: Create a New Session and select the sport that matches what you are
looking to do. It is likely that this will be Baseball or Softball.
o Step 2: Select “Hitting” as the activity you’re engaged in. Pocket Radar PRO is not
yet available for pitching or other modes.
o Step 3: Click the box that says “Calculate launch angles and velocity: Disabled” to
start the session.
• Next, we’re going to look at the proper way to set up and calibrate your hardware to
effectively support the Pocket Radar PRO Solution.
• As you are testing the Pocket Radar PRO solution, our team may reach out to you with
questions and surveys seeking feedback as part of the Early Access Program. We’re
excited to hear what your thoughts are.
Video 2: How to Set Up & Calibrate
• To properly use Pocket Radar PRO, it is important to ensure that both your device and
Pocket Radar hardware are set up correctly and are calibrated.
• To use Pocket Radar PRO, you’ll need a couple components:
o A capturing device – such as a smart phone or a tablet.
o A tripod – either from Pocket Radar or purchased elsewhere.
o A universal mount – which is typically the easiest way to secure hardware to the
top of the tripod.
• You are going to want to secure both your Smart Coach device and your personal device via the universal mount.
• Additionally, it is likely that you are going to want to use an external battery pack to
ensure your system continues running smoothly for an extended period of time. We
recommend using a pouch of some kind to secure your battery pack to your tripod.
• If you’re looking to train outside on a ball field or within an outdoor cage, it may also be beneficial to utilize a shade to avoid direct sunlight on your phone or Smart Coach
device.
• Now, where you position the actual tripod within the training environment is extremely important for accuracy.
• The best possible position for the tripod and radar – and which will provide the most
accurate readings – is going to be behind the hitter approximately 10 feet away from
home plate, 4 feet off the ground, and as close to center-aligned behind the plate as
possible.
o That said, the system will still operate effectively anywhere between 7-to-14 feet
behind home plate, 3-to-6 feet off the ground and up to 3 feet to either side of
the plate, off-center.
• The optimal positioning is directly behind the hitter – however this region is not always 100% open for the tripod’s positioning, so the key is to try your best to have all of home
plate visible and capture at least half of the hitter’s batters’ box within the field of view.
This means that the device cannot be put behind netting, fencing, or anything that
prevents a clear line of sight from your iPhone camera.
• For safety reasons and protection of your device, it is therefore recommended that you only use the Pocket Radar PRO solution within tee work, soft toss, or front toss currently
as batting practice and live pitching may put your device in harm’s way.
• Once you’ve got the positioning of the technology dialed-in as indicated by the visual
bullseye seen within the field of view on home plate, you’re almost ready to go and
begin using the Pocket Radar PRO Solution.
Video 3: Creating A Fitness Focus
• When using the Pocket Radar PRO Solution, it’s important to mitigate interruptions to
your activity and the performance you’re capturing in the cage.
• To achieve this, we recommend creating a Fitness Focus on your device.
• To do this, simply go to iPhone Settings.
• Then, click “Focus” within the menu of items.
• After your within “Focus,” click the add icon in the top right of the screen and select
“Fitness” as your focus type.
• Then, click “Customize” focus and ensure that “allow none” is indicated in both the
“People” and “App” notifications.
• Scroll down and tap “Add Schedule.”
• Then, click “App” and search for the Pocket Radar Sports App.
• Now, your device will block notifications when you need your phone to capture activity within the Pocket Radar Sports App.
• Moving forward, when you open the Pocket Radar Sports App, you’ll notice a banner at the top of your screen indicating you’ve activated the focus setting you just created.
Video 4: Troubleshooting Common Issues
• It is possible that within use of your Pocket Radar PRO Solution, you may encounter
various technological issues from time to time. This video is intended to help you
navigate and overcome such issues.
• While this video won’t cover all possible issues, it may help you to figure out various
issues experienced within your use of the product.
o Possible Issue #1: Within the calibration process, the “bullseye” must be on
home plate. The phone cannot be titled to achieve this, however. If the phone
becomes titled at any point, you will need to start the process over as the
system’s calibration has become corrupted.
o Possible Issue #2: It is possible that you’ll notice that some hits simply do not
register. If this is the case, it is likely because they have not traveled 30 feet or
more, which is required to perform the calculations. This is most often going to
occur with pop ups and ground balls driven straight into the ground. Instead,
look to drive the ball up the middle and the system will be most equipped to
track ball flight and perform the calculations.
o Possible Issue #3: If your phone gets bumped into or moved during the session,
you’ll have to recalibrate it. It’s a best practice not to use your phone for
anything when within your session and avoid making contact with the device or
tripod.
o Possible Issue #4: If there’s activity going on around you – such as balls being hit
or thrown in neighboring cages – it is possible your system will pick up on such
interference. We recommend using the speed filter feature to mitigate this
possibility.
Video 5: How To Submit Feedback
• The core purpose of the Early Access Program is to grant members of the Pocket Radar community access to pre-market innovation in order to generate feedback about
product issues, feature functionality, and gather overall opinions from our trusted
stakeholders.
• Therefore, it is appreciated that when you encounter issues with the hardware or
software experience, that you communicate your findings to us so we can continue
developing and ensure such issues are no longer encountered by our users.
• To submit feedback, go to “More,” then click “Early Access Program,” then “Computer
Vision,” then “Learn How To Upload Your Videos” and review the guide and instructions.
• You will be able to upload videos directly from your experience to give us an idea about what your training process and use of the Pocket Radar PRO solution is like.
• Again, your feedback is not only valued; it’s essential as we strive to perfect our
products and continue to deliver value to athletes, coaches, and parents everywhere.
Video 6: How To Submit Feedback
• The Pocket Radar Pocket Radar PRO Solution is hosted through a web-application which is separate from the Pocket Radar Sports App.
• The two programs work in tandem, but you will need to access the actual web application to power the enhanced functionality of the Pocket Radar Sports App.
• You can do this via one of two ways:
o Option 1 is to visit https://webapp.staging.pocketradar.services.com and log in
with the same credentials you use for the Pocket Radar Sports App.
o Option 2 is to generate a QR code within the Sports App by clicking “Setup
External Device” before starting the calibration process, or by clicking the QR
code icon in the video recording screen located at the top left if you’ve already
started a session.
• Additionally, by accessing the web-application separately, it is possible that you can resource nearby screens into your training, if desired.
• For example, you can pull up the web-application on a desktop screen or television
located within your training setting to provide greater visual feedback to coaches and players.
